Hiring Across my network!

I’ve been great feedback on this section so it’s becoming a permanent fixture! Every week, I share roles that my network is hiring for - all of these are connections of mine, or connected via people I know (so I know they’re legit!) and most were posted TODAY!
If you see a strong match, I can support with intros!

  • Lemonada Media which is an AMAZING podcast company is seeking a Director of Video and Social Skills - LA or NYC-based.

  • For anyone looking for fractional work, you NEED to check out vChief. I worked through vChief for several years both while doing full-time consulting work, and as a side hustle - basically until I started doing social media stuff in 2022.

  • TeachPlus has several roles open in operations and one literacy specialist role - mix of remote and on site.

  • FedEx has several Memphis-based communications roles open, and apps are closing on Friday the 17th!

  • Game Changer has lots of engineering roles open - remote in the US!

  • Tatiana is hiring for an entry level software engineer in SF!

Who is hiring in Q4?!

This is a TOUGH time as many companies slow down towards the end of the year. But a few areas to target:

  1. Retail: most large retailers hire seasonal workers. Walmart and Target typically ramp up hiring for the holidays. Amazon just announced they’re hiring 250k workers to support their warehouse and delivery services.

  2. Tax Firms: Companies like H&R Block hire thousands of people in December to work through April. This includes tax specialists but also administrative staff, customer service, etc. They also offer training!

  3. Winter Travel Destinations: If you live near a spot that attracts travelers in the winter, there may be opportunities at hotels, restaurants, etc.

  4. Finally, pay attention to who is announcing major rounds of funding or investments. For example, some of our policies around investing in chip manufacturing means that companies that manufacture chips will probably be hiring.

In the News

  • New data shows that the gender pay gap has INCREASED for the second year in a row according to the Census Bureau.

  • All but one news agency - One America News Network (OANN) signed the pledge. Even Fox News refused to sign. This is another move from the playbook of authoritarians and dictators from around the world, but I think it’s a really positive signal that nearly every news network rejected the pledge. • Amazon announced that they’ll be laying off 15% of their HR staff.

🙋Answering Your Questions🙋

Each week, I’ll answer one (or more!) of your questions in this section. You can submit your questions here.

My dream company has a an opening in an area that’s aligned with my experience, but well below my level and compensation targets. I have an interview, but want to communicate that I would like to be considered for more senior roles. Any recommendations for how to navigate this.

Congratulations on the interview! Honestly, my recommendation here is not to get your hopes up too much. They posted the role they needed and were transparent with compensation, they’re unlikely to pay a premium for your experience if the work they need done is at a lower level.

If you’re genuinely comfortable accepting an offer at this level and comp, but are just hoping they’ll keep you in mind, then I would say something like, “this is a bit lower than what I was targeting, but that’s to be expected given the level of the role. I would hope to be at the higher end of the range given my experience, and if anything opens up that’s more aligned to my experience, I’d like to be considered for that as well.”

If the level/comp is a deal breaker, I’d be honest about that too and just let them know that you’re really interested but would need to the role to expand in scope in order for it to be a fit.

You can also try to go further into the process and prove yourself which could lead to upleveling the role, but that’s pretty risky, and could burn a bridge if they feel like you mislead them so personally, I wouldn’t do that.
