🙋Answering Your Questions🙋
Each week, I’ll answer one (or more!) of your questions in this section. You can submit your questions here.
Hi there,
Any question about how to do networking effectively? I would appreciate suggestions related to efficient networking when job searching. I am currently unemployment and heavily focusing on networking. Currently attending networking events and trying to arrange coffee chats (in person or online), messaging people on linkedin. I am looking for a role in Customer Success - support. Any idea is more than welcome!
Honestly sounds like you’re doing a lot of the right things! A few more ideas:
Before messaging someone, engage with their content a few times. If your name is familiar, they are more likely to respond in my experience.
Keep your asks small. Being asked for a meeting or a coffee chat is pretty big - requires someone to give 30 minutes of their time, and also requires scheduling. Asking 1-2 questions is an easier ask. Something like, “would love to her the top challenge your team is trying to solve” or “are there specific technical skills you’re hoping someone brings to the role?” is easier to respond to while showing you’re interested, curious, giving you a chance to showcase what you offer, etc.
Look beyond LinkedIn. Post in your community group on Facebook, let your former colleagues know you’re looking, etc. The closer people feel to you, the more likely they are to support and make time for you.
