Some SHOCKING news about the job market

Or is it?!

Find your dream job without the hassle!

Resources of the Week!

  1. Ashley Blom just started a job as a CSM at Impel - and she shared they’re hiring in the Southeast - remote, but about 40% travel. Check it out here!! (She also volunteered to answer questions so you can connect with her on LinkedIn!)
Jeremy Tarbutton is hiring a remote VP of Finance at Culdesac

Side note: if your company is hiring, I’m always happy to plug it here (no charge!) - just email me!

  2. Check out our curated community job board!

  3. I fangirled a little over my video on “Quiet Vacationing” being included in this roundup from Katie Couric (OK fine her team, but I’d like to think she watched it!)

Wow!! Thank you all for your generosity!

I was blown away by the donations and generosity last week - I am frantically working on Resume/LinkedIn profile reviews.

I also got hit with COVID this week (which is also why this is coming a day late!) so I’m definitely behind on completing these though I’ve reached the half way point. I’ve had to pause this offering for the time being but may reopen it once I get caught up. Thank you all so much for your generosity to children in need!!

Is anyone surprised by this?!

Well, perhaps all that job creation wasn’t so accurate after all. Just caught this new update that job creation numbers are being revised downward by about 20%.

This probably feels really validating to a whole lot of people who felt - regardless of what the numbers said - that this is one of the toughest job markets we’ve experienced as adults, and that we’re not seeing as many of the types of jobs as people want.

The only good thing I read? Perhaps interest rates are too high based on this new data, so maybe there will be some motivation to bring those down.

Any way you look at it, this is probably more of an article that validates the experience people are having vs telling us something new.

Remotive is a free job board for remote jobs, but they also offer a paid accelerator that includes 30k+ remote roles that are curated and guaranteed to be active! The accelerator also includes a private Slack community and other resources to support you with your search for a remote job. If your goal is to land a remote role, check out Remotive.

🙋Answering Your Questions🙋

Each week, I’ll answer a few of your questions in this section. You can submit your questions here.

Do you have any tips for finding a company that lives up to their DEI talk?

This is a tough one! Most companies have some sort of commitment to DEI but it’s hard to tell how much that plays out in their actions.

A few things I’d look for:

  1. Diversity across the company, especially in senior leadership roles. Of course you can’t see all forms of diversity but you can get a good sense by scrolling through the leadership team on the website and looking at the people section of the company on LinkedIn.

  2. Does the company state a commitment to DEI on their website? Do they share tangible points of progress? Do they have positioned dedicated to DEI that indicate they are willing to invest in this area?

  3. Ask during the interview process and see what you hear. Can they share anything unique about the company’s strategy here? Do they share specific investments? Are they open about the challenges? You can always ask for data on attrition, promotion, etc.
