Is the September Surge finally here?

There's some good news on the horizon!

Land a remote role with the help of Kickresume!

So the big news these days is that it seems like we may have skirted a true recession, and the US economy is rebounding! More on that below.

But first:

  1. Last week, I partnered with Dover, a free ATS company to do some jobseeker matchmaking. Only those who signed up have access to the company list…but as subscribers to Landed!, so do you!!

  2. Just a reminder that we’re still in the giveaway period - last week, y’all made over 200 referrals!! I’ll be giving you your choice of a $50 Amazon or Target Gift Card OR a Timbuk2 backpack filled with some fun office goodies!
You’ll receive 1 entry for every referral you make between August 23rd and September 26th. The winner will be announced in the issue that goes out on September 27th!!

All other rewards are still active as well so your referrals still count towards earning resume reviews, coaching calls, and more!

So…back to the economy! Apparently we’re outpacing expectations for growth! People are spending more than expected, unemployment is lower than expected

What might this mean for jobseekers?

Well, hopefully companies will be feeling this growth, and therefore grow. With layoffs slowing down, this seems like something we can expect in the next few months or early 2024!

This could also mean more opportunities for growth in your current work place - as teams expand again, that might mean more chances for promotion or moving into something new!

👀 Here’s some interesting stuff in my world! 👀

I shared an update on how things are going with Ramped’s auto-applier. Most of their tools are free but this one does cost given that you’re working with a coach throughout the process. But check it out and see if it’s a good fit! You can use this link and select my name for a $50 discount (I do not get a kickback for this so truly just passing along the discount!)

Last week, I chatted with the Huffington Post about “Quiet Cutting” - yet another workplace trend. With this one, work places may shift your responsibilities unexpectedly - you can check out my thoughts on this trend here.

I’m currently kicking off a 3-week vacation! I’m super grateful to have job with truly unlimited PTO that is allowing me to totally disconnect!! And my hope for all of you is that you find a workplace that offers the same!

🙋Answering Your Questions🙋

Each week, I’ll answer a few of your questions in this section. You can submit your questions here.

I’m considering leaving a job after just a few months because the culture is a bad fit. How do I explain this in interviews?

Companies generally don’t need a long and detailed explanation - keep it brief, focus less on why you’re leaving and more on what you’re looking for in your next role.

You can also reassure them that you don’t typically change jobs quickly.

For example, “The company’s focus and therefore my job responsibilities have shifted quite a bit and just aren’t as strong of a match anymore. I am continuing to do good work, but am eager to be in an environment where I can contribute at an even higher level doing XYZ. As you can see from my resume, I typically stay in jobs much longer, but in this case, I truly believe that there’s a stronger fit for me out there, and that this will allow the company to find someone who is better suited to the current needs of my position.”
