Payrolls exceeded expectations in October!!
While we’re going a second month without a BLS Jobs report, according to ADP, we saw higher than expected growth in payrolls AND salaries!
In October, we added 42,000 jobs - an uptick from the 29,000 jobs added across private companies in September.
Changing jobs pays off slightly - job changers average a 6.7% increase compared to 4.5% increases for those staying in their roles. While this may not seem noteworthy, a few months ago, we were seeing the opposite where jobchangers were actually making LESS (which is very unusual!)
🙋Answering Your Questions🙋
Each week, I’ll answer one (or more!) of your questions in this section. You can submit your questions here.
I’ve been looking for a job for about a year without much success. I might need to take a general job soon just to cover my expenses, but I still want to keep applying for marketing roles — that’s where I really want to be.
My question is: after a year-long break, how can I position myself so it doesn’t look like I’ve been out of the game? I’ve thought about doing some freelance work since I’m interested in getting into affiliate marketing and could do some light projects in that area. Certifications could also help, but I’m limited on time and resources right now.
Any advice would be really appreciated.
I would 100% be doing freelance work right now! One plus is you don’t need to specific on your resume how many hours a week or for how long so this is a great way to show relevant experience on your resume.
You can also highlight how you’ve learned and upskilled in that time. Anything in the AI space in particular is something I would highlight since I think this is becoming more and more of an expectation for marketers.
Hello! I was wondering if you have any recommendations for recruiters to help me find professional work? I am willing to pay, but of course free would be even better. Please help, finding a job after being laid off has been really tough and stressful. Thank you!
In full transparency, you should never be paying recruiters to find you a job - recruiters are paid for by employers, and their jobs are to find highly qualified people who match the requirements of the company they’re working with.
My suggestion would be to reach out to agencies like Robert Half, Adecco, Kelly Services, Manpower, etc. They typically collect resumes for their database and if you fit a profile they typically hire for, they’ll be in touch. I recently did a panel with Michelle Carlberg and she noted that she welcomes people connecting with her directly!
